Truly, I did. I found Sculpey. And I love it.
Some people have personalities well-suited to addiction. If they aren't addicted to drugs, they'll find something else. I think I may be deeply and incredibly addicted to sculpting.
Out of the blue, I bussed my lazy rear over to Fred Meyer's and made a b-line for my favourite isle-- the craft section. It was there I curiously paused to glance the mediocre selection of clay and sculpting equipment and said, "...Why not?" I have since been back twice more to buy more Sculpey. I haven't finished my first box yet, but I'm nearly there and don't want to be deterred. Once my fingers touch that stuff, I don't resurface into the living realm for many, many hours. I have worked for ten hours straight some nights, completely unaware the sun rose hours prior.
I love it!
I'm currently working on a mini of Beatrix from Final Fantasy IX. I happened to be replaying it when I picked up that magic box of Sculpey, and decided I wanted to attempt her hair. I don't know why. She's nearly taller than my laptop and is executing her famous hairflip pose. Since she is my first, I'm sure much room for improvement exists. I've had to do a lot of trial and error with her-- especially when it comes to building her some legs. -_-;
In the meantime, I am a happy clam. Expect some photos when she is finished! I'd love to do some commission work for people (hint hint), but I don't think I'm quite skilled enough to get much out of that flow of thinking yet.
